In May 2008, Dayton Heart Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital joined forces to battle heart and vascular disease in the Dayton region. The Heart Institute of Dayton (THID) was founded shortly thereafter. Founding President, David Joffe, MD, envisioned a cardiac education destination to provide the latest educational tools, trends and developments in the world of cardiology to medical professionals and the greater Dayton community.

Sylvan Lee Weinberg Distinguished Lecturer Series – This series offers speakers that represent a wide range of America’s leaders in cardiovascular medicine and surgery. Free lectures for physicians, nurses and other specialists are offered throughout the year.
Sylvan Lee Weinberg, MD Library – A signature cardiovascular library designed to provide the most current cardiovascular educational tools to the medical staff at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Annual Cardiovascular-Thoracic Critical Care Course – The Cardiovascular-Thoracic (CVT) Critical Care Course presents the latest information in the unique specialty of CVT critical care. With the rapid evolution in the practice and technology of CVT critical care, this CME Course presents the latest concepts, practices, and technology to the multi-disciplinary professionals providing care for patients undergoing CVT operations and procedures.
The Heart Institute of Dayton Education Channel – The Heart Institute of Dayton Education Channel is an online resource for cardiovascular education. Created in partnership with Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, this website offers the opportunity to earn free continuing medical education credits by watching past Heart Institute of Dayton lectures and courses.

A community-based lecture series featuring athletes sharing their cardiovascular stories and perspectives to the Dayton Community. Past speakers have included former major league baseball player Aaron Boone, Hall of Fame Sportswriter Hal McCoy, Super Bowl winning Quarterback Joe Theismann, Baseball Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda, and Basketball Hall of Famer Ann Meyers Drysdale.
