ElderCare

We’re all aware of the aging of America, and our patient population  is no exception. With Baby Boomers reaching retirement age, between 50 and 60% of our inpatient admissions are 65 or older.

This trend has led to an increased focus on ElderCare. Whether it’s providing sensory enhancers like hearing amplifiers and magnifier sheets, or providing training to employees and family caregivers, ElderCare funds will have a direct impact on the quality of life for our older patients.

More and more people are finding themselves in a caregiver role with elderly parents. Because aging is a natural part of life, we want to ensure that we are able to provide all the best resources to assist older patients and their families in facing this transition. Your gifts to the ElderCare Fund can be used to provide training, specialized equipment, printed materials or anything else that makes a positive impact on the lives of aged adult patients.

Meet Kim

Every year, Kim (Kim Sadlier) and her committee of dedicated volunteer nurses present the “Excellence in ElderCare Series” for healthcare providers and family caregivers. “We’re excited to have a new ElderCare Fund at the Foundation,” said Kim. It will help raise the funds to assure the continuation of our ElderCare series, but it can do so much more, too.”

Kim went on to explain the need for new stuffed animals for patients with dementia. Such patients are sometimes confused and frightened when they come to the hospital or doctor’s office. A common reaction is for them to get agitated. Kim explained that the simple act of giving them a cuddly toy often soothes the patient, much like it might for a young child. The patient can take the toy home with them where it continues to bring comfort.
